Meet the Team

Her approach combines compassion with the latest understanding of addiction, behavioural change, trauma, neuroscience, attachment, and nervous system regulation.

Prior to founding Your Recovery Journey, Kylie built a successful career in senior leadership, people and culture, human resources, and executive coaching, working with leaders, executives, and high-performing professionals across a range of industries.

This experience gives her a unique understanding of the pressures faced by people who often appear successful on the outside while privately struggling with addiction, burnout, overwhelm, perfectionism, compulsive behaviours, or the weight of constantly holding everything together.

Today, Kylie combines that corporate and leadership experience with her expertise in addiction recovery, behavioural change, trauma recovery, and nervous system regulation to help clients create meaningful and lasting change.

Kylie has spent more than a decade coaching professionals, executives, and individuals through significant life transitions and behavioural change. Since specialising in addiction and trauma recovery, she has worked with clients across a wide spectrum of challenges, including alcohol and substance use disorders, process addictions, compulsive behaviours, and complex trauma.

As founder of Your Recovery Journey, Kylie has built a global network of trusted psychologists, psychiatrists, therapists, recovery coaches, treatment providers, and specialist practitioners. Together, they help clients access the right support, at the right time, wherever they are in the world.

Kylie’s approach is trauma-trained, science-informed, and deeply personalised. She draws on evidence-based approaches to behavioural change, recovery coaching, mindfulness, trauma recovery, and nervous system regulation, while recognising that genuine human connection remains one of the most powerful catalysts for change.

Her clients often describe her as compassionate, insightful, direct, intelligent, and unwaveringly supportive.

Kylie’s expertise is grounded not only in professional training and ongoing study, but also in lived experience.

After years of struggling with severe alcohol addiction, repeated relapses, hospital detoxes, and treatment attempts, she eventually committed to a comprehensive recovery process that addressed mind, body, and spirit.

That experience fundamentally shaped her understanding of recovery.

Today, she openly shares her story to reduce shame, challenge stigma, and offer hope to people who feel stuck, exhausted, or unsure where to turn.

She believes recovery is about far more than abstinence.

It is about freedom.

It is about self-respect.

It is about connection.

And ultimately, it is about creating a life you no longer need to escape from.

Helping people build that life remains the driving force behind everything she does.

Somatic Therapist | Breathwork Facilitator | Creative Healing Practitioner

Nicola Vella-Burrows

Some practitioners help you understand yourself.

Nicola helps you experience yourself differently.

Known for her warmth, wisdom, and extraordinary ability to create safety, Nicola supports clients to reconnect with themselves through a unique blend of somatic therapy, breathwork, creative expression, parts work, movement, voice, and psycho-spiritual exploration.

Her work is grounded in a simple belief: that the body carries not only our wounds, but also our deepest wisdom, resilience, creativity, and capacity to heal.

Kylie Butler

Founder & Recovery Specialist

Kylie Butler believes recovery can be done differently.

After years of struggling with addiction herself, she became determined to understand why so many intelligent, capable, motivated people continue to suffer despite desperately wanting to change.

Today, as Founder of Your Recovery Journey, she helps people navigate recovery with the same combination of compassion, honesty, and evidence-based support that she once needed herself.

Kylie is known for her ability to help people feel understood without feeling judged, while also providing clear direction when life feels overwhelming and the next step isn’t obvious.

Her work is grounded in the belief that addiction is rarely the problem itself. More often, it is an attempt to cope with emotional pain, trauma, stress, shame, overwhelm, disconnection, or a nervous system that no longer feels safe.

Rather than focusing solely on stopping a behaviour, Kylie helps clients understand and address the deeper drivers that keep them stuck.

Katie Nesbitt

Psychology Graduate | Somatic Practitioner | Trauma & Nervous System Specialist

Katie combines psychology, somatic therapy, mindfulness, breathwork, meditation, yoga, and advanced trauma-processing approaches to help people move beyond survival mode and reconnect with a greater sense of calm, confidence, and self-trust.

With a degree in Psychology from Northeastern University in Boston and extensive training in somatic therapies, hypnosis, Brainspotting, and other advanced trauma-processing approaches, Katie has supported thousands of clients worldwide in healing from difficult life experiences, regulating their nervous systems, and building the resilience needed to navigate life’s challenges.

Katie’s approach is both deeply compassionate and highly practical. She understands that insight alone is rarely enough to create lasting change. By helping clients work with the body, mind, and nervous system together, she supports meaningful transformation that can be felt not only in sessions, but in everyday life.

Alongside her clinical work, Katie has designed and delivered wellbeing programs for major international organisations, bringing a depth of experience in stress management, emotional wellbeing, and sustainable personal growth.

At Your Recovery Journey, Katie helps clients develop the tools, self-awareness, and internal capacity needed to create lasting change and build lives they no longer need to escape from. Her warm, grounded presence helps people feel supported, understood, and empowered throughout the recovery process.

Rather than relying on a single modality, Nicola draws from a rich and diverse background that includes expressive arts therapy, movement therapy, Holotropic Breathwork, somatic practices, addiction recovery, trauma healing, and personal development. This allows her to tailor her approach to each individual, meeting people exactly where they are and helping them discover the path that is right for them.

Clients often describe feeling deeply seen, understood, and accepted in Nicola’s presence. She creates a compassionate, non-judgmental space where vulnerability and empowerment can coexist, allowing people to explore trauma, life transitions, recovery, purpose, relationships, and personal growth with honesty and courage.

At Your Recovery Journey, Nicola is valued not only for her extensive experience and multidisciplinary approach, but for the calm, grounded, and deeply human way she helps people reconnect with themselves and move toward lives that feel more meaningful, authentic, and fulfilling.
